Plant Growth, Yield, and Quality of Containerized Heirloom Chile Pepper Cultivars Affected by Three Types of Biostimulants

Peppers (Capsicum annuum) are one of the most widely cultivated vegetable crops, with per capita consumption bell and chile peppers being 11.4 7.7 pounds in 2017. Biostimulants an emerging sustainable alternative to enhance plant health by increasing photosynthetic activity, stress tolerance, nutrient uptake through various modes action. The effects different biostimulant applications largely remain unknown containerized heirloom pepper production. This study evaluated growth, yield, fruit quality nine cultivars, including ‘Anaheim Chili,’ ‘Ancho or Poblano,’ ‘Big Jim,’ ‘Cayenne Purple,’ ‘Chile de Arbol,’ ‘Jamaica Hot Red,’ ‘Mulato Isleno,’ ‘Padron,’ ‘Pasilla Bajio’ a container production system throughout years 2020 2021. Each cultivar was treated three types biostimulants, Tribus® Original (a mixture Bacillus bacterias), Vitazyme (containing growth regulators B vitamins), C-Bio CPS (seaweed extract Ascophyllum Nodosum), water as control. Pepper cultivars varied yield quality, length, diameter, single weight, color both years. Red’ produced highest marketable yields similarly, Arbol’ producing lowest Biostimulant application did not affect either 2021 but enhanced green coloration.
